You think you know how technology is going to change education. You don’t.
You think you know the dangers of technology. You don’t.
You think you know the wonders of technology. You don’t.
If you are pro-technology in education and believe you can see the amazing future, you can’t.
If you favor throwing your wooden shoes in the machine to ban technology in the classroom, you are naïve.
Large Language Model Machine Learning is the very tip of the oncoming technology spear.
To use an analogy, we are in the bag phone stage of cell phones. We haven’t even seen the brick phone yet. By the time we see the smart phone of AI, it will be something we never even imagined.
You can’t envision the future of learning. And neither can I.
By the time we see what the world will look like when Large Language Model Machine Learning becomes actual Artificial Intelligence, everything we believed about the future of learning will have become passe.
Large Language Model Machine Learning gathers data and uses a difference engine to predict decisions. Artificial Intelligence will use data to create solutions intuitively. Once a real Artificial Intelligence model gains experience, it will create solutions to questions we did not even think to ask.
In our lifetimes, cancer will be cured. Unlimited energy sources will become a reality. World hunger will be eradicated. Space travel beyond our solar system will be commonplace.
And education will no longer resemble what we know today.
Schools as we know them will not exist.
Our system of education was marginally adequate for learners of my generation. And I graduated high school almost 50 years ago. For today’s learners, it is a dinosaur.
But have heart. The changes, they are a-coming.
Just imagine what learning could be for every child based on everything we know today. In fact, make a wish list of everything you have imagined and write it down. Don’t worry about the how. Focus on the why, and design the perfect learning system. Be creative. Go crazy. Make it the learning system of your dreams.
Got it all down? Wonderful.
Now tear it up. Because what we know today will change in the blink of an eye.
It’s time to step into the looking glass Alice and prepare to be amazed.
